The Exit Papers

A working guide for leaving a life that no longer fits. Free, whole, no email wall. Your answers save in your own browser and nowhere else. Print it when you’re done, or send it to me: write to me.

1 · The self-test: how you know it’s time

Check what is true. Don’t negotiate with the boxes.

The four chains that keep men in what is broken are real and well studied: the years paid, the fear of waste, the ego, the identity. Naming which one holds you is half the work.

2 · The budget worksheet: your real number

Fill in what your life actually costs each month. Round up, not down.

Roof (rent or mortgage + utilities)
Food (all of it, including the ordering)
Transport (car, gas, insurance, transit)
Insurance & health
Debt payments
Everything else (subscriptions, stuff, leaks)
Your month: $0

Sacred Valley reference, 2026: furnished place $250–$500 · modest month ~$800 · comfortable ~$1,500. Cusco and the Valley run half to a third of a typical US month.

3 · The ledger: staying against leaving, honestly

Two columns. Write real things, not slogans. If a line is about what you already paid, it goes in neither column: that money is spent.

4 · The six-month timeline

Month 1 · The truthThe self-test, the ledger, the number. Tell one person you trust. Nothing else.
Month 2 · The researchWhere, roughly. Rent ranges, visa asks, flight costs. Two hours a week, no more. Research can become hiding.
Month 3 · The moneyThe exit fund: six months of the NEW life’s cost, not the old one’s. Kill the leaks you found in the worksheet.
Month 4 · The loose endsThe lease, the car, the boxes, the hard conversations. One per week, scripted if needed.
Month 5 · The scoutGo stand in the place. Two weeks minimum. Rent, don’t book hotels. Buy groceries, not tours.
Month 6 · The stepThe one-way ticket, or the honest decision not to buy it. Either one is an exit from the loop.

5 · South America, straight

The monthly income a residency visa asks for. Checked July 2026. These numbers move every year. Treat this as orientation. Get a local immigration lawyer before you file anything.

CountryIncome askedWorth knowing
Peru~$1,000 / mo, lifetime incomeLowest bar on the continent. Citizenship possible after two years. Stay at least half the year or lose the status.
Colombia~$1,200 pension / ~$3,900 rentistaGenerous to pensioners, steep for everyone else.
Ecuador~$1,446 / moTied to the minimum wage. Adjusts yearly.
Argentina~$2,000 / moOne-year permits, renewable. Rules and rates move often.

6 · The watch-outs nobody tells you

Don’t buy property in year one. Rent everywhere first. The town you love in week two is not the town you know in month eight.
Mind the day-count. Most residencies die if you leave the country too long. In Peru, more than 183 days out in a year cancels it.
Money moves before you do. Sort banking, cards that work abroad, and how you’ll receive income before the flight, not after.
Income rules are picky. Peru wants lifetime income: a pension or annuity, not freelance checks. This trips up more people than anything else. Ask before you plan around it.
The lawyer comes at filing time. Not for the dreaming. Not for the scouting. Pay a good local one when you file. It is cheap insurance.
Loneliness follows unpacked. The move fixes the noise, not the alone. Land where you know someone, or build that first.
The weight

Why men stay in what is broken

It is not weakness. The mind has four chains, and they are well studied.

The years paid. “I’ve given it eight years.” The years are gone either way. They are a reason you are tired, not a reason to stay.

The waste. Walking away feels like throwing something out. But you cannot waste what is already spent. Only what is left.

The ego. Leaving means saying out loud that you chose wrong. So men double down instead, and call it grit.

The identity. The job, the city, the marriage became who you are. That is exactly why leaving feels like dying. It is not dying.

How you know it’s time

You have been having the same conversation with yourself for more than a year.
The best version of staying is survivable. Not good.
You catch yourself wishing for a small disaster, just to be allowed to rest.
Every reason to stay is about what you already paid, not what is coming.
You have stopped telling the truth about your life to the people who love you.
You are reading a page like this one.

My philosophy

There is nothing to add. No new course, framework, medication, philosophy. The work is removing: the filth in the body, the filth in the mind, the distractions. When mind and body integrate with the spirit, we remember who we are in our divine perfection. It is time to come home to our hearts and do what is right, without permission or outside validation. This is the work I do on myself every day. My hope is to share the remembering with you, so we wake up together with the sun in our eyes and joy in our hearts.

Where this guide ends

Paper can hold your numbers. It cannot hear your voice shake on the parts that matter. That’s the difference between this guide and a person.

Tell me what is happening, in your own words. I read it myself and write back.

The letter

Once a week, by email

What the research is finding, and what the fire already knew. One letter a week, written by me. Leave your email if you want it.

Everything on this site stays free either way.
